a new comic

i won't give too much detail, but I've got a new story idea that I'm thinking about making a comic with it. Just my own personal project. I have to practice my drawing a bit more though... I've gotten kinda rusty...

To give something about the plot, basically it's about an awkward, American girl who majors in Japanese and international business. In order to complete her major she has to study abroad in Japan. She's a proud, self-proclaimed, otaku and attends an anime club with her friends (the creators). She's thrilled to go to Japan and expects to find kakkoii otaku and girls to hangout with... but nothing could be more opposite. Thus, her adventures begin.

To give a bit of cultural background for American otakus... The general idea seems to be that American culture and entertainment is something better ignored. However (not being Japanese and being unfamiliar with traditional Japanese stories) Japanese manga and anime are something spectacular and makes Japan seems like the perfect country to admire and adore. Shoving aside their own culture (which they inevitably can't really escape from) they indulge themselves in anime and manga, believing that Japan is something similar to their favorite shows.
I've even heard that they believe Japanese otakus to be something of an idol in Japanese culture... since they are American and branded themselves "awesome" and above American culture, then surely the Japanese otakus must be even more "awesome". In order to be even closer to Japan, they begin to study the language and search for Japanese friends. However, their extreme interest in anime and manga combined with social awkwardness, could only remind a Japanese person of an otaku in Japan... Most of the time, despite their interest, their Japanese isn't very good either. Sometimes their location seems to fail them as well (for example... there's not a lot of Japanese people in Tennessee compared to California).

Basically, they can only admire Japan from afar and believe it to be the best country in the whole, wide world without even being there for more than 3 months. yay! So i'm basing my main character on that.

Nice gallery! I miss Japan so much^^
I was browsing around when I found your site. Your art looks good ( need to go back and look closer before I can comment) and your photos are awesome. I just got back from a trip to Tokyo, so I know a bit about what you're talking about in your webblog. I watched your second video journal and liked it. Overall, you look like someone I should watch. I hope to see more of you soon. Come comment on my Tokyo pics when I post them.
thanks for the comment. I see you're trying your hand at drawing. Good luck and keep up the good work.
